Position Summary
Omaha Public Schools Foundation is seeking certified Pre-K teachers to serve in classrooms located within OPS elementary schools and operated by OPSF. The Classroom Teacher is responsible for creating a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment that supports the academic, social, and emotional growth of all students. This role requires a commitment to high quality instruction, strong relationships with students and families, and ongoing professional growth.
Essential Responsibilities
Maintain regular and predictable attendance, arriving on time and prepared for all scheduled workdays.
Plan, implement, and guide the learning process to support program objectives, developmental milestones, and individualized student goals.
Develop students’ cognitive capacity, curiosity, and respect for learning while fostering positive self esteem.
Maintain a safe, positive, organized, and engaging classroom environment conducive to learning and social emotional development.
Implement diagnostic and progress monitoring practices, including observation, documentation, and reporting of student growth.
Select and utilize effective instructional methods, strategies, and materials aligned to best instructional practices and diverse learner needs.
Establish and maintain cooperative, supportive relationships with students that promote academic success and personal growth.
Model and implement positive behavior guidance strategies, including conflict resolution and social emotional learning.
Maintain open and consistent communication with parents and guardians regarding student progress, behavior, and classroom activities.
Collaborate with colleagues, support staff, administrators, and the broader school community to achieve program goals.
Maintain classroom organization and instructional materials to ensure a clean, safe, and effective learning environment.
Participate in OPSF required and external professional development, training, and continuing education opportunities.
Engage in ongoing professional growth to strengthen instructional practice and job related knowledge.
Model professional behavior, ethical conduct, respect, integrity, and responsibility in all interactions.
Comply with all OPSF policies and procedures, licensing requirements, and staff handbook expectations.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Program Director, Principal, or supervising staff to meet program needs.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Strong belief that all students can and will learn
Demonstrated knowledge of best instructional practices and early childhood development
Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families
Effective organization, time management, and problem solving skills
Ability to remain responsive and composed in emergency situations
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Education from an accredited college or university required. Degree in Early Childhood Education preferred.
Valid Nebraska Teaching Certificate in K through 6
Demonstrated successful classroom teaching or student teaching experience
Proven ability to foster positive human relationships and collaborate with school communities
Strong attendance record
Equipment and Work Environment
Ability to use instructional and classroom technology such as SMART boards, iPads, and basic office equipment
Ability to work successfully in a school building environment
Must be able to respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations
